At mavo/havo, havo/vwo, and vwo levels, you can choose the sports program in the regular curriculum. In the first two years, you will have five hours of sports per week and get to know both popular and lesser-known sports.
You will delve into the human body, game rules, and tactical formations. We also organize many sports outings outside of school, such as survival trips, ice skating, squash, and competitive rowing. Check out the video at the bottom of this page from a day for sports students.
Of course, an amazing winter sports trip is not to be missed. In addition, you will organize your own sports activities and supervise sports days at our own school and at primary schools.
If you are in mavo, you can take LO2 as an exam subject from the third year onwards.
In havo, we offer a (pre)BSM program starting from year 3.
Masterclass sports
The sports program is intended for children who enjoy sports and physical activity and are open to learning 'new' sports. Students do not need to be top athletes to handle the amount of time we spend on sports or the level of sports. Motivation and perseverance are very important. We are looking for students who are all-rounders, can keep up well with all sports, and easily pick up new sports. We assess suitability during the sports admission test.
If the advice from the primary school is appropriate and you have indicated interest in the sports program, we will invite the student for the sports admission test. We must then assess this test positively in order to be able to place the student.
During this test, we assess, among other things, motivation, perseverance, fitness, motor skills, and ball skills. The test lasts a morning or an afternoon.
The sports program can be followed in the first year at vwo, havo/vwo, and mavo/havo levels. In the second year, students continue at vwo, havo, or mavo level. For mavo students, there is a continuous sports learning pathway with the subject LO2. For havo students, the continuous sports learning pathway consists of the subject BSM.
The sports program lasts two years, but after that there is a continuation at mavo and havo level with LO2 and BSM.
During the sports program, we work with a varied schedule. Last year, the program for first-year students included, among other things: survival, archery, canoeing, self-defense, squash, a visit to the Corpus museum, rowing, a basketball tournament, gymnastics and dance demonstrations for primary schools, and a five-day winter sports trip. Since the sports curriculum offers more hours for sports than the regular curriculum and the sports students are also more skilled in sports than average, we can provide a broader range in addition to in-depth activities. Based on the range of sports events and clinics offered during the relevant school year, we determine the final, sporty, and challenging program.
In year 1, regular classes have four hours and in year 2 two hours per week of Physical Education (PE). For students in the sports program, this is six hours in year 1 and four hours per week in year 2. Students in the sports program do not take the subject drama, so the total number of lessons remains the same.
In both year 1 and year 2, students receive a clothing package. During clinics and activities, it is mandatory to wear this clothing. During PE lessons, wearing it is of course allowed but not required.
In the first year of secondary school, the additional contribution is approximately 250 euros, which includes a 3-day camp. In the second year, this is around 190 euros. These contributions cover all clinics and excursions throughout the year. In the first year, students receive a sports shirt that they are required to wear during all activities. The five-day winter sports trip, which takes place every two years, is not included and will cost approximately 675 euros.
Your child is not required to follow a sports continuation program. The sports program is primarily intended for students who enjoy sports and want to combine this with school. This also includes students who simply like to be active and appreciate that sports interrupt learning, sitting still, and concentrating during academic subjects. This benefits learning performance.
Given the additional activities involved in both bilingual education (tto) and the sports program, as well as the different lesson schedules, it is unfortunately not possible to combine tto and the sports program.
