Last Wednesday, comedian, actor, and writer Erik van Muiswinkel visited Portus Groene Hart at the invitation of the French department. He gave a lecture to the students from havo-4 and vwo-5 who have French in their curriculum about the famous book 'Le Petit Prince' by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
This worldwide bestseller was first published in 1943 and has since been translated into more than six hundred languages and dialects. In 2021, Van Muiswinkel produced the latest Dutch translation, which was published together with the original text in a new bilingual edition. In his lecture, he spoke about the life of the author, the remarkable illustrations in the story, and the choices a translator has to make.
During their French lessons, the students became acquainted with the story using the bilingual version and created beautiful posters on several important themes. Erik van Muiswinkel reviewed these posters. For each theme, he then selected the most appealing or remarkable poster.
The prize winners, of course, received a copy of the bilingual edition of 'Le Petit Prince' as a reward. Naturally, there was an opportunity afterwards to ask questions and have the book signed. Portus Groene Hart looks back with great pleasure on this special and educational contribution by Erik van Muiswinkel.
